MEMBER PROFILE (CAROL MARNEWECK)

Every month we share a profile on one of our members. At the November 2025 Meeting, Carol Marneweck, our Club Secretary was in the spotlight:

About me:
I’m an animal lover and proud cat mom to three furballs and wife to Marius for over 30 years. I’m 55 years young. I spend at least half of my time buried in back-office admin of our maths & science franchises in Joburg — always with a mug of Douw Egberts coffee nearby. The best move we have made in life is moving down to the coast in 2021, we have the ocean, amazing views and fantastic friends.
Current Gear: Canon 5D Mark IV Fave lens: 50mm f/1.8
Windows or Mac? Windows

I love music; Cat Stevens, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Disturbed, Imagine Dragons, Ozzy Osbourne and One Republic to name a few of my faves. I love belly dancing and recently started Pilates. Once we finish building our dream home in Sheffield Beach, I’m hoping to pick up my guitar again.

How I got into Photography: My photography journey started about 20 years ago when my brother-in-law invited me to join him on a “learn to shoot in manual mode” course. Before the day was over, I had bought my first DSLR — a Canon 20D — and I was hooked. That same camera has since been passed on to a friend’s son, and I hope it brings him as much joy as it did me.

Inspiration: I’m currently reading Photography and the Art of Seeing by Freeman Patterson and absolutely loving it. His work inspires me not just in what to photograph, but why. I’m in a phase of exploring what draws me to a subject — and I hope my photography will increasingly reflect what feels authentically “me.” I’m excited to see where this creative journey leads.
